  • Children's Beginning Drawing   closed for summer

  • SUMMER Adult Figure Drawing meets Wednesday evening from 5:30-8:30    PRE-registration is required. The fee is $10/hr. Enjoy cheap wine, tasty treats, good music and great models. This is the most fun you'll ever have in figure drawing class!

        

Beginning and Intermediate. Class Curriculum:

This is the equivalent of a freshman college level course, designed to introduce students to the basic skills and elements of descriptive drawing. Students will become familiar with the basic vocabulary and conventions of objective drawing processes and media while emphasizing an enhanced perceptual awareness and eye/hand motor skills.

CLASS GOALS -

  • Having a broadened awareness of drawings not only as objects, but as the by-products of creative processes. Understand the elemental components of composition. Be familiarized with the major subject matter genres that characterize representational (referential) imagery.

    a.) still-life. b. ) interior.  c.)  landscape (time and weather permitting).

    NOTE: Figure Drawing is a fourth major genre not emphasized in this class. We will, however, explore self portraiture.

  •   proficiency with gesture as a drawing strategy.

  •  proficiency with line.

    a.) contour line. b.)  objective considerations regarding line i.e., line as design. c.)  subjective considerations regarding line (i.e., expressive use of line).

     A proficiency with value.

    a.)  the development of value scales and their application as a drawing strategy.  b.)  objective considerations regarding value.  c.  subjective considerations regarding value.

     A proficiency with texture, "actual" and "implied".

     A proficiency with measuring strategies to enhance perceptual awareness.

     Be creative within assigned project parameters - understand the importance of taking risks and inventiveness.
